Infractions would result in the prisoners being taken to the strip cell, where they would remove all of their clothing and spend time there with no lighting, sink, mattress, or toilet.

Sometimes folks in the city will refer to 1140 Royal Street as “the Haunted House” instead. In New Orleans, however, the two are identical. Shows like American Horror Story have made an already iconic site even more notorious. (Spoiler: producers took huge creative liberties, as Hollywood often does.) The majority of the filming took place at the Hermann-Grima House on St. Louis Street, which was perhaps for the best given that the LaLaurie Mansion is said to be cursed.

City Hall Subway Station
The majestic City Hall Station, once the crown jewel of the subway system, now sits empty and underused at the terminus of the 6 Line. Its vast ceilings, which are currently mostly silent, used to reverberate more than simply passengers’ footsteps.
During the station’s construction, workers reported hearing a peculiar, unidentified noise late at night. One of the laborers, a member of the Leni Lenape tribe, identified the sound as language.
